An Introduction to Digital Imaging I (DDSN 331)

This introductory course covers the core concepts associated with digital imaging. Adobe Photoshop is used for creating, manipulating, and enhancing digital images for print and screen-based media. Students learn how to effectively use this software in a graphic design environment, planning and carrying out professional digital imaging projects. This course introduces both basic visual design concepts and a comprehensive understanding of digital workflow, providing the student with a foundation for print, web, interactive, animation, and game design projects.

Students created greeting cards based on a selected a holiday or occasion. To give the finished greeting card a finished look, the rectangle tool was used to create an envelope along a drop shadow to add depth to the greeting card and envelope.

This Photoshop assignment requires a combination of multiple images, different filters, effects along with the application of type to create a front cover, spine and back cover for a book. Students are asked to create a theme or use existing book cover designs as a reference to create their concept. The completed book cover is placed into a Photoshop template to present the final book cover design as finished product.
